This is not the ... This is not the Original version!!! Dolly first recorded this song in 1970. She re-recorded it in 1980 for this? film, The Best Little Whore House in Texas! Whitney got her inspiration from the 1970 original. The vocal arrangement is somewhat similar in that version.
Dolly is one of the ... Dolly is one of the best song writers ever! These lyrics are beautiful and heartbreaking! I remember in the late 80's, I heard Dolly say that Whitney was thinking about covering her song. Dolly was very excited? and encouraged Whitney to do it. Thank GOD she did, because it made Dolly Super Rich as the writer of the biggest love song of all time! This was one of the greatest musical collaborations of the era!

It's laughable that ... It's laughable that some? are typing that Whitney put no soul or passion into this song. She sang the rooftops off it and I had the pleasure of hearing it live! I like Dolly's version and she deserves credit for writing it, but it's Whitney's version I prefer. If you prefer this one it is your OPINION & same everyone has one You can't make it a fact that just because you love a song that it's the best one. Ridiculous. To each his/her own. And for the record, they're 2 different genre's of music.
